Wollaton Hall and Gardens

Home to the city’s Natural History Museum, this splendid prodigy house was used as Wayne Manor in the Dark Knight Rises.

About

Sir Francis Willoughby used nearly all of his resources constructing Wollaton Hall in the 1580s, creating a prodigy house to rival those of royal courtiers. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the interiors were remodelled, though the exquisite Elizabethan facade was left largely untouched. Since 1926 the estate has been owned by Nottingham Council and houses the city’s Natural History Museum. Included in the 750,000 object collection are fossils, minerals, shells, taxidermy, and jars preserving more delicate animals in 'spirit'. On a guided tour, visitors can also learn about the manor’s history and inhabitants while visiting the well-preserved Prospect Room, roof walkway, and underground Tudor Kitchen and Admiral's Bath. The surrounding 500 acres of gardens and parkland aren’t just a popular place for visitors to walk - they attract herds of red and fallow deer. For more information, please visit wollatonhall.org.uk
