As can be seen on any map, Paris, the capital of France, has remained one of Europe's major cultural, historical, and business centers. It's not hard to imagine why, given that some of the world's greatest writers, musicians, designers, poets, chefs, and architects have called Paris home over the centuries. This city is beautiful, lively, and inspirational, attracting millions of visitors annually. But how did Paris become what it is today?
Paris began as a settlement founded by the Parisii, an ancient Celtic tribe, on an island in the Seine River more than 2,000 years ago. The Romans captured it in 52 BCE, renaming it Lutetia. Under Roman influence, the town flourished and expanded across the surrounding river banks. It wasn't until 987 CE that Paris became the capital of the West Frankish Kingdom under Hugh Capet.
Unfortunately, during the 1300s, the Great Plague caused significant stagnation, killing many residents. The city began to grow again in the 1500s, experiencing significant historical events like the French Revolution in the 1700s and the modernization efforts of the 1800s, which further influenced its development and global influence.
Given its rich past, it's no surprise that Paris has become the marvel it is today. When you visit, you can see its history and modernity reflected in its landmarks, attractions, historic buildings, museums, churches, and culinary delights.
There is much to see and do, so buckle up with Daytrip and journey from Mont Saint Michel to Paris to explore its many attractions. Soon, you, too, can bask in the city's romantic ambiance and enjoy an authentic French pastry while wandering from one iconic spot to another.

Oct 5, 2024“We used Daytrip.com for 4 trips within Italy. This door-to-door service is not inexpensive. That said: All 4 drivers arrived on time. All spoke fluent English. All were excellent drivers, and all were kind and considerate. Lots of other things went wrong on this trip, but Daytrip.com did exactly what they promised.”
