Ahopsan forest

This 400-year-old untouched and preserved forest has witnessed the passage of time from the Japanese occupation to modern industrialisation.

About

Long shrouded in secrecy, Ahopsan Forest has gained global recognition since being featured in numerous Korean films and TV series. In 2016, the forest's custodians, guardians of its legacy for centuries, decided to open its hidden wonders to the public. The area has been designated as a green belt and water source conservation zone, safeguarding the pristine environment and thriving ecosystem. Embark on trails leading to the surrounding nine mountains, with a variety of trees, including red pine, hinoki cypress, oak, and more, creating a breathtaking panorama. A remarkable 116 trees have been marked as protected, testament to the forest's ancient and valuable history. Two bamboo forests, Maengjongjuk and the bamboo tree-lined trail, captivate visitors with their serene beauty. Dense bamboo thickets shimmer in the sunlight, casting a magical glow. Beyond the towering trees stands the Gwanmiheon, the traditional head house of the forest's caretaking family, built without nails and still using a wooden furnace. Entry is 5,000 WON, and operating hours are 9AM to 6PM Tuesday to Sunday.
