Appomattox Court House National Historical Park

Experience the end of the Civil War in the preserved town where hostilities were officially ended.

Om

The Appomattox Courthouse National Historical Park is a live rendition of a typical Civil-War era village. Rebuilt during the 1940s, this town was built in the model of the town around the time of the surrender of Robert E. Lee and his Confederate Army on April 9, 1865 -- the event that ended the Civil War. As though it was frozen on this April day, the Appomattox park is built with meticulous care. From the Court House, the Tavern, and even the fully furnished McLean House, where Robert E. Lee surrendered. Also noteworthy is the site of the last cannon fired by the Confederate Army.
