Bear Sanctuary Prishtina

Up until 2010, there was no law against people owning brown bears in Kosovo. Many restaurants would keep brown bears, snatched from their mothers while they were cubs, in small cages in an attempt to lure customers. Once it was made illegal to keep bears, the animals needed a new home, and thus, the Bear Sanctuary in Prishtina was born. The work of FOUR PAWS, the Bear Sanctuary in Prishtina is the only place in Kosovo allowed to care for rescued bears, providing them with a 16 hectare park to enjoy their natural habitat, complete with pools and hibernation areas. Visitors to the park can enjoy the same beautiful natural surroundings, learn the backstory of each bear, and see these rescued giants enjoying their freedom while being kindly cared for.
