The Caves of Catullus have a winding history, but the pieces that remain today are breathtaking nonetheless.
Located just two minutes from the fortified town of Sirmione, the Caves of Catullus are not actually caves. They are impressive ruins of a villa so grand and massive that they take you back in time. This place even has a beautiful view of the water along its eastern side. This Roman villa is the largest and most important villa in northern Italy. The ruins are open and free to guests, with plenty of signs full of captivating texts in various languages. There are olive groves with a special entrance to the shallow lake where one can slip and slide on the silky smooth rocks.
