Situated in the heart of São Miguel, this viewpoint offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
At an altitude of 514 meters, the Cerrado das Freiras Viewpoint is situated on a hilltop and looks over the lush green landscape of the Azores, which is dotted with charming villages, rolling hills and picturesque farms. At the top of the hill, you’ll be reworded for the short hike along a well-marked trail with breathtaking panoramic views of the island, most notably the Sete Cidades lagoon. The twin lake is known for the meeting of blue and green waters. The volcanic massif of Sete Cidades is also visible from the viewpoint, one of many on the magmatic island. The name Cerrado das Freiras translates to “closed nuns”, said to have been named after a group of nuns who lived in a nearby convent and would come to the hilltop to enjoy the stunning views.
