Transport yourself to a distant realm with a visit to Cortegana Castle, an incredibly well-preserved medieval castle, complete with a collection of furniture and armour.
While historians are unable to determine the exact origins of the castle, its foundation has been linked to King Sancho IV of Catile in the 13th century. In 1293, Sancho authorised the council of the city of Sevilla to build a number of castles to defend its outlying areas, which remains the leading theory of the origins of Cortegana Castle. While it was most likely built in the 13th century, the castle saw several remodels during the 16th-18th century after a number of earthquakes. The castle remains a true figure of medieval history and provides a breathtaking view over the town and surrounding countryside. Visitors can enjoy a visit inside the castle for a small entrance fee year-round from Tuesday to Sunday, with the exception of holidays.
