This multi-faceted museum offers an overview of local tribes and traditions alongside some unexpected technological relics.
The Great Lakes Museum opened in 2014 to preserve and share the history of the tribes with visitors passing on the road connecting Ntungamo and Kabale. Artefacts like boats and masks from the Bakiga, The Ankole, The Banywaranda, and The Baziba people offer an insightful and informative glimpse of local culture, while a collection of phones and cameras, musical instruments, and hunting equipment offer a bit of every-day life through the years. Outside, you’ll find a number of bronze statues, and the onsite cafe offers Ugandan coffee and food, and even rents out mountain bikes.
