Grotta Su Marmuri

One of Sardinia’s most impressive caves, the rocks and formations are colored in a swirl of earthy hues.

About

Literally meaning “the marble” in Sardinian, Su Marmuri Cave lives up to its name. After descending the 100 steps from the cave entrance, you’ll be transported into an underground world where the delicate formations swirl with natural colors. Stalactites and stalagmites grow from slow drips of water, sometimes merging into impressive columns that would make the ancient Greeks envious. Underground lakes and basins reflect the colorful formations, while cave fauna including bats, beetles, and different species, such as bats, beetles and a particular amphibian, the salamanders flit and scurry through the dark recesses. On a guided tour, you’ll be brought into this wonderful underground world, and learn more about how caves are formed. Just remember to wear proper footwear, because the wet environment makes things slick! Not every tour is in english, so be sure to check times at https://www.grottasumarmuri.it/
