Jane Goodall Institute Chimpanzee Eden
Continuing the work of the famed primatologist, this sanctuary protects displaced chimpanzees, while educating the public about our closest relatives.
Om
The Jane Goodall Institute Chimpanzee Eden opened in 2006 as the first chimpanzee sanctuary in South Africa. The sanctuary works to rescue chimps from the bush-meat trade, illegal pet market, or circuses, beach resorts, and nightclubs where they were used for entertainment. Making good use of the 1,000 hectare Umhloti Nature Reserve, these animals are provided a safe home in a semi-wild environment. On a guided tour, visitors will see these three groups of chimps going about their business from viewpoints overlooking the forest and âforaging areasâ, learn each animalâs story, and discover more about manâs endangered closest relative. Bookings must be made in advance through www.chimpeden.com
