Experience Florida’s raw beauty in this huge stretch of wilderness.
Covering 11,500 acres, the Jonathan Dickinson State Park is the largest in Southeast Florida, and one of the most diverse. There are sixteen distinct natural biomes to experience, ranging from sand pine scrub, to mangroves and swamps, all of which you can explore by land or water. The Loxahatchee River was Florida's first federally designated "Wild and Scenic River", so if you want to be on the water, it’s hard to beat kayaking or canoeing under its cypress trees. Along with the natural attractions, you can also get a bit of local history. Learn about the secret World War II training camp, and the shipwrecked Quaker merchant who the park is named after. Park Rangers even offer guided tours of the 1930s homestead of Trapper Nelson, the legendary Wild Man of the Loxahatchee.
