Markiezenhof

The oldest city palace in the Netherlands offers a museum, cafe, and exhibition space all under on gorgeous Gothic roof.

About

Built at the end of the 15th century, the Markiezenhof served as a noble residence up until the French Revolution when it was seized and used as a military hospital. Afterwards, it was converted into a barracks and fell into disrepair until restoration work began in the 1960. Today, visitors are free to roam the palace grounds to take in the beautiful architecture, or can join a guided tour of the interior where fully furnished rooms give a glimpse of noble life. One of the particular highlights is the Hofzaal - a reception room dominated by a monumental fireplace carved in the 16th century. Throughout the year, the Markiezenhof hosts exhibitions and special events. To see the palace’s schedule and hours, please visit https://www.markiezenhof.nl/english/
