New Zealand
The region’s most spectacular waterfall bounces over mossy rocks in a lush forest.
Tucked away in the Catlins Conservation Park, McLean Falls pour 22 meters down a rocky cliff. They then continue to tumble down a series of moss-covered rocky terraces for many more meters. While it’s only about a 40 minute return hike to the falls, the trail passes through a variety of indigenous flora: huge tree fuchsia, stands of olearia, and towering podocarp forest. Between the picturesque cascade and lush surroundings, it’s easy to see why McLean Falls are touted as the best in the region.
