Moses Bridge
A marvel of modern architecture, this submerged bridge parts the waters of an old defence moat.
Om
Moses Bridge was built in 2010 as part of the Fort de Roovere renovation project. Found on the West Brabant Water Line, the 17th-century fort became one of the many water-based defences erected against the French and Spanish invaders. When it was decided to transform the ruins of Fort de Roovere into a recreational area, the historic moat was also newly filled with water. Since an ordinary bridge would have visibly disrupted the original function of the moat, Dutch architects came up with an ingenious way of providing passage to the fort. Alluding to the major event of the Exodus, they created an âinvisibleâ bridge out of waterproofed tropical wood. Water comes up all the way to the edge reflecting the surrounding nature. Climb up the Pompejus watchtower found across the bridge for even more stunning views!
