The country’s oldest rock art sits in a strange, stony landscape.
Nyero Rock Paintings are believed to have been created by the semi-nomadic Karamojong tribe between 3,000 and 12,000 years ago. Located in six rock shelters, the six panels of prehistoric are painted in red and black pigment and feature many geometric and abstract patterns. Only accessible on a guided tour, the hike to see the paintings showcases the area’s wonderful landscapes and the strange rock formations that are basically natural works of art in themselves.
