The Norwegian Naval Museum

This esteemed institution chronicles the rich history of the Royal Norwegian Navy with a remarkable collection of naval artifacts and immersive experiences.

Om

The Norwegian Naval Museum, situated at the former main naval base of Karljohansvern, is one of the world’s first naval museums. Inside, explore decommissioned ships, an extensive array of equipment used by the Norwegian, Allied and German navies, as well as ship models, paintings and photographs. Browse the ship log books that document naval activities from as far back as 1814 to the present day, and for an immersive experience, venture outside the museum to explore a submarine situated on land. Book trips aboard select museum vessels, such as the schooner Svanen, constructed in 1916, and the renaissance boat Vaaghals. Delve into the lives of seafarers throughout history from the Viking era to the present day in the “At Sea!” exhibition and go on a captivating journey through maritime history. Entry to the museum is free. Opening hours vary and can be found on the website: https://marmuseum.no/en/opening-hours.
