Before the elegant Renaissance manor was built, this unique Gothic fortification once guarded the Czech coronation jewels.
Velhartice Castle was built between the 13th and 14th centuries. Velhartice follows a unique layout where the castle is connected to a Donjon tower via a fortified bridge, which briefly guarded the Czech coronation jewels. In the early 17th century, a Renaissance-style chateau was connected to the castle, elevating it for Gothic fortification to noble residence. Velhartice Castle has been a state-owned property since 1945 when it was confiscated by the government. Today, the castle offers two guided tours, allowing visitors to learn both about its medieval fortifications, and the life of the aristocracy in the chateau.
