Wat Tham Suea
The regionâs largest golden Buddha statue is flanked by interesting Chinese-influenced temples.
Om
Wat Tham Suea, literally âTiger Cave Templeâ is a hilltop temple accessed by a brightly colored staircase or a steep funicular ride (for a small fee). Before heading up the hill, the two tiger statues mark the entrance to the namesake cave. The nucleus of the temple is an 18 meter tall Buddha covered in golden mosaics. Surrounding this are several ornately decorated stupas and chedis, the largest of which is filled with murals depicting images of Buddha in some seldom-seen postures, as well as Kanchanaburi's history. Be sure to climb to the templeâs upper stories for a great view of the surrounding landscape, and closer look at the intricate architectural details of the temple buildings.
