Beyond its picturesque natural beauty, Yeongwol boasts a rich history dating back to the Joseon era, with several important sites worth visiting. The Jeongneung Royal Tombs house the tomb of King Danjong, the 6th Joseon King, and the Cheongpyeong area boasts the largest pine grove in Korea, where King Danjong once resided before his untimely demise at the age of 17. In addition to its historical significance, Yeongwol houses a plethora of art galleries and museums. The Muksan Art Gallery exhibits paintings portraying the scenic landscapes of Yeongwol throughout the year, while the Yeongwol International Museum of Contemporary Art showcases sculptures from around the world. The Museum of Manbong Buddhist Art honors Buddhist monk Manbong, displaying his relics and an array of Buddhist artwork. The Kwae Yeon Jae Ceramic Museum offers pottery-making experiences, while the Hoann Museum of Tea Ware provides a delightful journey through the art of making green tea and features relics from over 3,000 years ago. Yeongwol also beckons nature enthusiasts with scenic retreats such as Seogang, Gubongdaesan, Yeonha Falls, and the Naeri Valley.
