Barcelos is home to the iconic Galo de Barcelos (Rooster of Barcelos), Portugal's national symbol representing faith and justice. The town also hosts one of Portugal's largest traditional markets and maintains centuries-old pottery traditions.
The journey takes approximately 1 hour, traveling through northern Portugal's scenic countryside with views of traditional villages, agricultural landscapes, and the Lima River valley.

The legend tells of a pilgrim wrongly accused of theft who claimed a roasted rooster would crow to prove his innocence. When the rooster crowed, the pilgrim was freed, making the rooster a symbol of faith and justice.
The town produces traditional wooden toys, hand-woven textiles, religious artifacts, and decorative items. Local craftsmen maintain traditional Portuguese woodworking, metalworking, and textile techniques using centuries-old methods.
