Franchthi Cave

What started as a side project for American archeological students turned into one of the most significant pre-historic discoveries of the 20th century. Franchthi Cave sits on the shores of Kiladha Bay and is believed to have been inhabited periodically since at least the Stone Age. It is about a 10-minute walk from Lampagianna Beach on a narrow footpath that runs along the bay, but during the Stone Age, it would have been much further from the shore due to lower water levels. Once you reach the cave on foot, it has informational panels about the archeological discoveries that helped build our understanding of some of the earliest human inhabitants in the area. This stop is unsuitable for young children, those with mobility problems, or those wearing inappropriate footwear due to the condition of the path and cave interior.
