The Towada-jinja Shrine, often shortened to simply Towada Shrine, sits unassuming among a cedar grove in the Aomori Prefecture. This ancient Shinto shrine dates back over 1,000 years and is believed to honor Yamato Takeru, a heroic figure in Japanese folklore, who is said to have tamed the area’s wild spirits by turning into a dragon. Towada Shrine has a peaceful, mystical atmosphere among the trees and by a lake. As you approach the Torii gate, towering cedar trees line the path to the shrine, and the sacred aura intensifies. Crossing under the Torii gate symbolizes the transition into a world of tranquility and spirituality. At the Uranaiba, visitors can purchase special Oyori-gami papers to tell their fortunes by throwing them into the lake. Legend says that if the paper sinks into the lake, the fortune will be granted.
