Napoleon celebrated his victory over two other emperors in this beautiful Baroque chateau.
Originally built in the 13th century as a stronghold by the Teutonic Knights, Slavkov Chateau underwent several revisions over its long history, culminating in the Baroque manor seen today. In 1805, Napoleon defeated Tsar Alexander I and Holy Roman Emperor Francis II in the Battle of Austerlitz, also known as the Battle of the Three Emperors, not far from the Chateau. Afterwards, an armistice was signed between France and Austria in the chateau’s salon. Today visitors can take a guided tour to learn more about Czech nobility, or head to the museum dedicated to the Battle of Austerlitz, where visitors will find period weapons and uniforms. Twice a year, the chateau hosts reenactments of the historic battle.
