The Castle of Pszczyna

Starting as a medieval castle, this Baroque palace is amazingly well preserved and has some jaw-droppingly beautiful interiors.

About

Originally a 13th century castle, over the years, the estate was updated and refined, ultimately transforming into a stately baroque palace in the 18th and 19th centuries. The palace occasionally hosted the German Emperor William II during World War I, and pictures of him with his generals are on display today. The rooms where the Kaiser stayed, known as the ‘Royal Apartments’, have been fully restored with their original furnishings. Upstairs, visitors can marvel at the apartments of Princess Daisy, who lived here from from 1891, when she married Prince Hans Heinrich XV and left her native England, until her death in 1943. The rooms are decorated with pictures of the princess and hunting trophies of her husband and the German Emperor. In the Gothic cellars, visitors can see a well-curated armoury.
