Agadir
Rebuilt after an earthquake in 1960, itās the white sand, calm waters, and 300 sunny days a year that have made Agadir Moroccoās premier seaside resort.
About
Agadir was founded by Portuguese merchants in the 15th century to develop trade links with Saharan caravans. The settlement did well until the 1760s when trade was diverted to Essaouira, and needed to be completely rebuilt after a devastating earthquake in 1960. Today, the old town is covered by the grassy knoll beneath the kasbah. Amazingly, the 16th century kasbah itself survived the quake, and now stands as the oldest building in the city, where visitors can enjoy medieval architecture and stupendous views of the coast. But itās the beautiful stretch of white sand, calm waters, and 300 sunny days a year that have made Agadir Moroccoās prime beach resort. Even if you donāt want to get your feet wet, a broad promenade provides a great place soak up some sun.
