Kabale
Surrounded by green hills, this is a pleasant stop on the way to the national parks
About
Kabale is the main centre of activity for the entire of south-west Uganda, a focal point for most economic and transport operations. Indeed it has been since colonial times when, in 1913, it was set up as the administrative headquarters of the Kigezi district. Kept cool due to itās 2000 metre altitude, Kabale is a vibrant town with itās overflowing bars and vigorous night clubs. A little earlier in the evening you can try the local beverage, such as āenturireā (a mixture of water, sorghum and honey fermented together)ā or āmurambaā (a mixture of sorghum and water), and if youāre a lover of pork there are many places where you can taste the way the locals make it. For a little culture, check out the Home Of Edirisa, a small museum containing a replica of a traditional Bukiga homestead made from sticks and papyrus.
