Landeck Castle

This medieval castle has been through some turbulent times, but now serves as a museum to the village’s long history.

About

Built in 1290 to serve as an administrative seat, this medieval castle’s roots are much deeper - originating in a Roman fort, overlooking the Via Claudia Augusta, the Historic Roman Road. The castle reached its peak under the Knights of Schrofenstein, and now serves as a local ethnographic museum. The permanent exhibition named “Staying or Leaving” spans 800 years of local history, exhibiting everything from Celtic figurines to hand-carved Krampus masks. In addition, the castle also houses a gallery which features regular exhibitions of local and international contemporary artworks.
