From a Civil War prison to a quaint Southern park, this green space is filled with history and natural beauty.
Magnolia Springs State Park is an example of a painful past put to good use. During the American Civil War, the area that makes up the state park was a prisoner camp, Camp Lawton. You can still visit the remnants of the fort, as well as timbers that were possibly done by the prisoners. Visit the History Centre to find out more about the grounds, as well as see a few artifacts dug up from the site of the park. Or stand on the boardwalk over Magnolia Springs and watch millions of gallons of crystal clear water flow past your eyes. There are also opportunities to spot alligators, birds, many other native species.
