The Mayflower Bocawina National Park was established in 2001 to preserve 7,000 acres of lush rainforest. To date, 3 Maya temples have been discovered within the park, and which have a visitor center dedicated to their history and the artefacts unearthed during excavations. For nature lovers, the hiking trails here are some of the best in the country, winding through a lush jungle landscape filled with howler monkeys and hundreds of species of tropical bird. The trails are of varying difficulty, but each rewards hikers with some beautiful waterfalls and pools of mountain water to cool off in.
