A favourite royal retreat, this stunning water garden became insta-famous for its pool with stepping stones.
Built by Raja Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem in 1946, Tirta Gangga served as royal palace before they were opened as a public retreat. The lavish estate features 1.2ha of pools, ponds, and fountains, the waters of which are considered holy. Surrounding these are neatly cut lawns, ornate statues, and tropical gardens. The single most popular feature is the first pond with its golden carp, rows of guardian statues, and polygonal stepping stones - buy a bag of fish food at the entrance, and make your way out to the center stone to capture them all in one Instagram-worthy image. While the fish and statues get most of the media attention, make sure to walk the entire grounds to experience the breathtaking views offered by the garden’s perch on the slopes of Mount Mount Agung. There’s even a restaurant on site so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy yourself.
