Vinh Moc Tunnels

The Vinh Moc Tunnels were created by the people of this small fishing village when the American military, thinking they were aiding the North Vietnamese, began bombing the area. Between 1966 and 1972, the US dropped an estimated 9,000 tons of bombs on the area - an average of 7 tons of ordinance per person. By the end of the war, the tunnel complex grew to include wells, kitchens, individual housing, and medical areas, while preventing even a single casualty. Today, a guided tour brings visitors into this essentially unchanged underground village, which, while still cramped, is decidedly more comfortable that the Viet Cong’s infamous military tunnels. At the on-site museum, you can see photos and relics to get a clearer picture of life underground.
