After you've taken in the impossibly endearing village and elegant castle of this UNESCO-listed village, Vienna will enchant you with its timeless atmosphere, a wide range of museums, elegant architecture, and so much more.
Although the drive from Cesky Krumlov to Vienna takes less than 3 hours, the distance between the cities is perfect for exploring additional sightseeing stops along the way. As Cesky Krumlov is close to the border, you will spend most of your drive within Austria.
When you take a private car transfer with Daytrip, you can discover stunning Austrian towns like Linz, Melk, and Durnstein, each with its own unique charm. Or take advantage of the opportunity to stretch your legs by visiting the cities of Kreuzenstein and Klosterneuburg, before you're dropped off at your accommodation in Vienna.
About Vienna
Vienna is possibly the most majestic and elegant city in the world. Known as the City of Music, it is the center of classical music and the birthplace of many famous composers, such as Strauss and Schubert. Although such composers as Mozart, Beethoven, and Haydn were not born in Vienna, they spent much of their lives there, composing the most celebrated works and enriching Vienna’s musical heritage.
While Vienna is mostly celebrated for its classical music, elegant architecture, and stunning cityscape, not many know that Vienna is home to the world’s oldest still-operating zoo. Founded in 1752, the Schönbrunn Zoo has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (it's part of the lavish Schönbrunn Palace) and is home to more than 700 species. If you are traveling with kids, consider setting aside a few hours to explore its diverse wildlife.
As classy Vienna looks from the outside, it is from the inside. For three consecutive years, Vienna has been named the most liveable city in the world. This honor is chosen based on factors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, culture, and safety, with Vienna particularly excelling in the latter.
Vienna has a deep-rooted coffee culture that began at the end of the 17th century, making it the ideal destination for coffee enthusiasts. Viennese coffee houses are known for their small marble tables, the iconic Thonet chairs, and newspaper stands.
In the previous centuries, coffee houses served as gathering places for everyone, from intellectuals and artists to everyday people, where they could engage in conversation, read, work, or simply relax. So if you want to explore an authentic Viennese culture, take a seat at one of its charming cafes and enjoy a cup of coffee along with a traditional pastry, such as schnitzel or strudel.
From Cesky Krumlov to Vienna: travel tips
Before you begin your journey from Cesky Krumlov to Vienna, there are a few things to know or consider. To save you time, we have summarized the three main travel tips that will ensure a smooth and enjoyable stay in Vienna:
Get the Vienna Card
Vienna has a very efficient transport network, so consider moving around by using public transport. A great way to save some dollars (or euros, the local currency) is by purchasing the Vienna Card. You can choose from 24-hour, 48-hour, 72-hour, or 7-day cards. The 24-hour card costs around $19 (€17), and for an additional fee, you can add options like airport transfer or a 24-hour Hop-On Hop-Off sightseeing ticket.
Check the museum websites
Vienna is a museum city, with more than 100 to choose from. If you have a specific museum in mind, be sure to check their website for their closing days and any potential free admission days.
Bring a reusable water bottle
There are more than 900 public water fountains scattered all around Vienna, so make sure you bring a reusable water bottle to not only save money on water but also help the environment by using less plastic. An interactive map is available to locate all the water fountains but be aware that the fountains do not work during winter.
How to get from Cesky Krumlov to Vienna

From Cesky Krumlov to Vienna by bus
Those who prefer an affordable way to reach Vienna will most likely opt for a bus. However, there are no direct buses, so you’ll need to transfer in Prague. There are two main bus companies that offer the route from Cesky Krumlov to Vienna:
- Flixbus: A one-way ticket costs approximately $29.50 (€27). The journey time is from 8.5 to 9 hours.

From Cesky Krumlov to Vienna by train
Although traveling by train from Cesky Krumlov to Vienna is possible, there are no direct connections between the two cities. You would first need to take a train from Cesky Krumlov to Linz, with a transfer in Ceske Budejovice. From Linz, you would then need to board a separate train to Vienna. Overall, taking the train may not be the most convenient option for traveling between these cities.
From Cesky Krumlov to Vienna by shuttle bus

From Cesky Krumlov to Vienna by private car service

Things to do when you get to Vienna
Vienna is a city where boredom is a choice. With so much to see and explore, you will likely find yourself planning your next visit before your current one even ends! To help you make the most of your time, here are four recommendations that will suit everyone’s needs.
For art and history enthusiasts
If history and art are what make your eyes light up, Vienna is the perfect destination for you. There is plenty to see and explore, but if we had to recommend just two places, they would be the stunning Schönbrunn Palace for history and the Kunsthistorisches Museum for art lovers.
To visit the majestic palace, make sure you book your tickets in advance, as otherwise, you may have to stand in line for hours to enter it. This palace, where the Habsburg monarchy spent the summers, is one of the most popular attractions in Vienna. Take a moment to explore the symmetrical gardens, where unique fountains and several sculptures stand.
Although the building itself is worth visiting, the *Kunsthistorisches *Museum holds an exceptional art collection of artists like Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Raphael. The museum is large, so set aside a few hours to explore its immense galleries and get lost in its artistic heritage!
For music enthusiasts
If classical music strikes a chord with you, then attending a world-class performance at the Vienna State Opera is a must. Even if you don't plan to see a performance, you can still take an informative tour to learn more about the opera and its stunning architecture. Bookings for tours open one month in advance, so be sure to plan ahead.
For foodies
There are so many restaurants to choose from in Vienna, for different tastes and budgets, so instead here are the three main traditional Viennese dishes you should try at some point during your stay:
- Wiener Zwiebelrostbraten: a traditional dish made of roast beef with fried onions.
- Wiener Würstel: Vienna is known for its varieties of sausages, Wiener Würstel being the most typical one, so make sure you try it at least once!
- Brettljause: a traditional Austrian charcuterie board that includes ham, bacon, cheese, bread, and pickles.
For families with kids
Vienna is a family-friendly destination, offering numerous activities for children. Kids will definitely love visiting Vienna’s zoo (which you can learn more about in the ‘About Vienna’ section) but if you are searching for more options, you must visit Prater Park. This amusement park has no admission fee, and the iconic Giant Ferris Wheel, a symbol of Vienna, greets you at the entrance.
When is the best time to visit Vienna
If you are seeking the best balance of the lowest prices and fewer crowds, then the best time to visit Vienna is from April to May and from September to October. During these spring and fall months, the temperatures remain pleasant and it will be easier to explore the city, as there will be shorter lines at the major landmarks. Additionally, if you’re planning to attend one of the iconic Viennese balls, October is the perfect month to visit, as it marks the beginning of the ball season.
Vienna is also known for its Christmas markets and becomes an especially popular destination in December, so make sure you book accommodation, restaurants, and tickets to the main landmarks in advance!

Incredibly delighted beyond expectations!
“October 28 Daytrip conveyed us from our Vienna hotel to Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic - a marvelous destination not easily or quickly accessible by public transportation. Arriving promptly, our driver, Petr, was thoroughly professional & a safe driver with an extremely clean, smooth running vehicle. He was concerned with our comfort & anticipated needs like cold bottled water & restroom stops after providing a short overview of our route. Along it he pointed out places & landmarks of interest. He is a delightful conversationalist from whom we learned a great deal about his country. Cesky-Krumlov bans cars on the old town’s narrow medieval streets, but Petr parked as close as possible before escorting us & bringing our luggage to our lodging. Regarding information, pricing, & booking, Daytrip was very easy to deal with & quickly responsive - especially compared to another transfer service. Advance payment was not required. For our safety we got Petr's photo & ID information in advance. Hiring a private driver was well worth the convenience, substantial time saved, & stresses avoided.”

2021년 11월 19일Another Terrific Daytrip
“This is my second review of Daytrip which I feel appropriate to comment on to indicate my first positive review was no fluke, and in particular to acknowledge our driver, Andre. We travelled from Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic to Vienna, Austria. The first bonus was that Andre lives in the centre of Cesky itself, which made it easier to get ourselves and our luggage into the vehicle, rather than having to cart it to one of the car parks outside of the town. The second bonus was that Andre was a great conversationalist and was able to provide many insights into the history of Czech and also the current society, among many other topics. He even texted me a few days after the trip to follow up on a particular topic. Logistics and admin for the trip were no problem so I am very happy to again recommend Daytrip.”
