Birthplace of the 16th President of Korea
Korean history enthusiasts will be delighted to visit the birthplace of Noh Moo-hyun, who served as a president of South Korea between 2003 and 2008
Om
A mere stone's throw east of the town of Jinyeong-eup, huddled at the foot of Bonghwasan mountain, lies the humble Bongha Village. This quintessential farming hamlet is famed for its sugary Jinyeong persimmons, rice plantations, and, most notably, the birthplace of former President Noh Moo-hyun, who served from 2003 to 2008. The main attraction - a modest, brick-and-slate-roofed house where the ex-president was born - nestles quietly amongst the village fields. While seemingly plain, every nook and cranny of this house brims with an elusive charm to the inquisitive visitor. You might even spot a visitor or two gently scooping soil or stones into plastic bags as keepsakes; some go so far as to collect water, cherishing it as almost sacred from the ex-presidentâs birthplace. The house welcomes visitors from 08:00 to 19:00 in the summer, and 08:00 to 18:00 in the winter.
