Castle Neuenstein
This privately owned castle museum not only exhibits the history of noble decor, but also a collection of historic oddities.
Om
Built in the Middle Ages, in 1300 the castle became the property of the Counts of Hohenlohe. The 16th century saw Count Ludwig Casimir renovate the medieval fortification into a noble Renaissance residence. While the castle was abandoned as a family home in the 1700s, it continued to serve as an event venue until being transformed into a museum in 1878. Today, the museum houses items from seven Hohenlohe, giving a broad overview into the history of the Hohenlohe family and region. The richly furnished rooms feature period-correct decorations from different eras, including furniture, art, and everyday objects from the Renaissance to the Baroque to the Biedermeier period. The curious âArt and Rarities Cabinetâ housings historic oddities such as the only surviving hat of the 17th century King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden, a shoe of Catherine the Great, and the worldâs largest bladder stone.
