Creglingen
This picturesque town on the Romantic Road is well known for its historic buildings, and its Thimble Museum.
Om
Founded in the 11th century, Creglingen would have remained an obscure provincial city if it werenât for a chance miracle in the 14th century. According to legend, in 1384 a farmer found an intact communion host, so Konrad IV von Hohenlohe-Brauneck ordered a church on the site. Today, visitors flock to the church to see the incredible 16th century altar, carved by master woodworker Tilman Riemenschneider. Considered one of the finest examples of religious artwork in the world, the life-sized figures of Mary and Jesus are in exceptional condition since the Protestants kept the figures covered. The charming old town, with its cobbled streets and terrific half-timbered houses brings visitors back in time. Creglingenâs quirkiest attraction is the singular Thimble Museum, which exhibits 4000 thimbles from around the world, made from every material imaginable.
