Daniel Boone Home National Historic Site

Get a glimpse of frontier life and the legacy of folk hero Daniel Boone in this charming house.

Om

To clear up any misconceptions, the charming Georgia-style home that is the Daniel Boone Home National Historic Site was actually built in 1799 by the legendary Daniel Boone’s youngest son, Nathan. Daniel and his wife moved into Nathan’s place in 1806 and largely remained there until his death in 1820. Behind the thick limestone walls, you’ll get a glimpse of frontier life cloaked in the legend of one of America’s greatest folk heroes. On a guided tour of the home (the only way to get inside), you’ll see period furnishings and learn about life in the early 19th century. And, of course, hear about the exploits of Nathan and his father. Surrounding the home is a 300-acre historic site, filled with a dozen buildings including a general store, school house, and grist mill, which offer a broader look at life on the Missouri frontier.
