Gliwice Radiostation Museum
Europeâs tallest wooden structure signalled the start of World War II.
Om
Description At 118 meters, the "Silesian Eiffel Tower" takes the crown as the tallest wooden structure in all of Europe. While the edifice made from criss-crossed larch wood beams, and secured with brass screws is impressive in its own right, itâs the towers role in history that makes it a landmark. On August 31st, 1939, the German SS launched âOperation Grandmother Diedâ, and staged an attack on the tower as justification for invading Poland. Today, the tower museum educates visitors on radio history, while the tower itself has moved into the 21st century, and carries multiple transceiver antennas for mobile phone services.
