Kisnana castle

Starting as a small family parish in the 11th or 12th centuries, successive generations made continuous improvements to the property. By the 14th century it had a mansion on the site, and in the early 1500s, the castle was fortified. At the time the Lord of the Castle was István Losonczy, who gave refuge to László Móré (see the legend). In 1543, only two years after the Turkish occupation of Buda, Kisnána was destroyed by the Turks, and they left it in ruins. Over the the next few decades plans were made to rebuild the fortress as a border stronghold. However, the castle, was never rebuilt partly because of the early death of the owner. The castle lay in ruins until the 1940s, when members of paramilitary youth organizations created a military practice field there. Following a major reconstruction, the castle now sets the stage for a 10-minute, 3D movie showcasing its history, screened every hour.
