McConnells Mill State Park
Deep in a scenic gorge, this historic watermill is a picturesque slice of Pennsylvania's past.
Om
Originally a gristmill built in 1852, McConnells Mill became one of the first rolling mills in the country when Thomas McConnell replaced the traditional grindstones with new rolling mills and the waterwheel with turbines. The mill was used to process oats, corn, buckwheat, and wheat for the region's farmers up until 1928. On Wednesdays through Sundays during the summer, you can go into the restored mill to learn about its history and how it works. Right next to the mill is a picturesque, 19th century covered bridge, which is a favorite subject for photographers. If you need to stretch your legs, have a choice of four trails to hike and rock-climb on! The easy 0.8 km Hells Hollow Trail will bring you through the forested gorge to the scenic Hells Hollow Falls.
