Mission Estate Winery

Set in a historic seminary, New Zealand’s oldest winery offers an enchanting viticultural experience.

Om

The Mission estate winery was founded in 1851 by French Missionaries who had come to New Zealand years before with a few vines from their homeland. Originally just producing just sacramental wine and table wine, the winery made their first commercial sale in 1870. Since then, they’ve adopted some modern technology, but still adhere to their original ethos. Today, visitors can explore the picturesque, Victorian seminary to learn about the winery’s past and present, and, of course, finish off with a guided wine tasting - you’ll even get a souvenir glass (min. 4 people)! Then there’s the excellent on-site restaurant, where you can enjoy a fantastic meal in a historic setting. You can even head to the bar for a tasting while you wait to decide what to have with your meal. Groups of 4 who wish to join the guided tasting should book in advance at https://missionestate.co.nz/cellar-door/
