Mondonedo Cathedral
This picturesque Romanesque cathedral combines a variety of architectural styles and surprising array of artwork.
Om
Mondoñedo looks like a sleepy valley village today, but was once one of the capitals of of the Kingdom of Galicia, and an important religious centre. Around 1230, construction began on the townâs Romanesque cathedral, which over the centuries would receive stylistic updates, such as the Gothic stained-glass rose window, and two ornate Baroque towers. Inside, the polychrome Madonna in the high altar, was saved from St Paul's Cathedral in London during the Protestant Reformation of Henry VIII of England. They also discovered some unusual Gothic paintings depicting the Massacre of the Innocents during restoration work.
