Santa Fé played a significant role in the Spanish history. Being founded by Catholic Kings at the end of 15th century, its historical roots cannot be missed. At first, the town served as a military camp, housing the army that would go on to besiege Arab-ruled Granada. The town's military roots are still evident in the fortified walls surrounding the city center. Having established itself as a safe have, Santa Fé hosted Christopher Columbus when he came to sign the agreement to finance his voyage to East Indies, which would eventually lead him to discovering the New World.
