About Venice
In Italy, you'll find Venice, one of the most romantic cities in the world. It is filled with unique history, settled against the backdrop of awe-inspiring canals, lagoons, bridges, and Renaissance-style architecture.
Like many other European cities, Venice's history stretches back to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period, with the Republic of Venice reigning from 697 AD until 1797 AD. During this timeâfrom the 13th century until the end of the 17th centuryâthe city was also a significant trade center, with the hottest commodities being grain, silk, spice, and art.
As a trading center, it became a rich city, allowing it to build ornate buildings, palaces, churches, and homes throughout the city seen today. When visiting, you'll take in many of the spectacular buildings characterized by their flourishing Gothic, Byzantine, Baroque, and Renaissance buildings. Some of the best examples of buildings constructed in these styles include Doges Palace and the Basilica di San Marco, which decorate the main square in Venice.
If you're an artist or someone who loves art, you'll also love that the city is celebrated for housing some of the greatest art pieces in history. You'll find artwork by the greats like Tintoretto, Titian, and Veronese throughout the city's galleries and museums. In addition, if modern art is more your style, Venice will not disappoint. One of the best places to explore if you're interested in art is the Venice Biennale, a cultural exhibition showcasing contemporary art and architecture.
Besides the beautiful architecture, art, and music, the city is also worth exploring if you're a foodie at heart. With hundreds of cafes around nearly every corner, you're bound to find a few meals you'll enjoy. Not to mention, the nightlife in Venice is unsurpassed, so we encourage you to explore the clubs and bars.
From Verona to Venice: travel tips
If your heart is set on visiting Venice and you're planning a trip from Verona to Veniceâboth cities in Italyâyou should keep in mind a few travel tips.
Keep your valuables close
Although most of Italy, including Verona and Venice, is safe, this doesn't mean crime isn't happening. That's why keeping your valuables close is incredibly important when you stop and sightsee along the way and when you arrive in Venice.
If you're planning to use public transportation, be wary of others as pickpocketing crimes have increased, especially at train and bus stations and on the boats themselves, especially if you take a water taxi to get to your accommodation once in Venice.
We recommend using a private car service to avoid the hassle of contending with crime during your journey from Verona to Venice. With Daytrip, your professional driver can be trusted to keep you safe and their hands to themselves.
Wear the gloves provided when in a supermarket
Few people realize this before traveling, but much of Italy requires shoppers to wear gloves when shopping in the fruit and vegetable section. So, if you decide to do some shopping at one of the local supermarkets along the way, keep this in mind.
Often, the supermarket provides disposable gloves for you to wear when selecting your fruits and vegetables. However, you'll also need to weigh them yourself with the store's scale machine, which gives stickers with the prices.
Book everything in advance
When we say book everything in advance, we mean everything. The last thing you want to experience is a sold-out attraction, restaurant, or accommodation during your travels from Verona to Venice. So, if possible, plan and book transportation, hotels, and dining experiences in advance online or by phoning the establishments.
How to get from Verona to Venice
Verona and Venice are two of the most visited cities in the Veneto region, so, unsurprisingly, they are well connected by bus, nighttime or daytime train, flight, taxi, and private car transfer service. Yet, because there are so many options, how do you know which transportation option to choose? To help you with this decision, we've detailed your options below if you plan a trip from Verona to Venice anytime soon.
From Verona to Venice by train
A train trip from Verona to Venice is one of the most popular travel choices because it is reliable, fast, and affordable. The route between these two cities is about 75 miles (105 km), so the trip takes about an hour by train.
Ticket prices start at $9.85 (âŹ9), and you must book to leave from the Verona Porta Nuova train station and arrive at the Venezia Santa Lucia station in Venice. When booking, you can choose between three train lines: the regional, fast regional, or high-speed train. At least two trains leave every hour, so you'll likely find a booking for when you want to travel.
From Verona to Venice by bus
Those traveling solo and on a tight budget should consider booking a bus from Verona to Venice. Itabus and Flixbus are the two train lines that offer services between these two cities, with most trips taking between one hour and 45 minutes and two hours and 10 minutes. Yet, the length of the trip will depend on the bus you have chosen and whether or not there are planned transfers and stopovers.
If you do choose to travel by bus, tickets cost about $8.75 to $13 (âŹ8-âŹ12). Although this is relatively inexpensive, you should expect it to be less comfortable than a train, flight, or private car service, and there will be fewer amenities on board.
From Verona to Venice by flight
Although flying from Verona to Venice can be difficult, flights are available with a few airlines, such as British Airlines, Dolomiti, and Lufthansa. However, it's important to note that flight prices can be high, and the journey can take anywhere from 2 and a half hours if you're lucky enough to get a direct flight to more than 20 hours if you are on a flight that will encounter transfers and stopovers.
In addition, price-wise, it's often not worth it since tickets can cost upwards of $700 (âŹ641). So, if you're planning to fly, consider other forms of transportation first to avoid the hassles associated with flights between these two cities.
From Verona to Venice by private car service Daytrip
One of the fastest, most comfortable, and exciting ways to travel from Verona to Venice is by private car transfer service Daytrip. If you travel directly, driving between the two cities only takes an hour and 15 minutes. You also have the option of stopping along the way, which can add time to your trip, but it's often worth it considering the many wonderful attractions along the way.
Although Daytrip might be more expensive than a train or bus trip, with prices starting at $52 (âŹ48), you get access to a private local English-speaking driver who will share his local knowledge and handle your luggage. You'll also get to set when you're fetched so that your transportation timeline fits into your itinerary plans.
Things to do when you get to Venice
If you're planning a trip from Verona to Venice, what do you have on your agenda to visit and explore? If you're not quite sure, we can help with that. Below, we've listed a few things you must try and visit in this spectacular city.
The Grand Canal
You'll find it difficult to visit Venice and not see the Grand Canal, which can be likened to the city's main street, considering it's a city built on water. A trip along Venice's Grand Canal in a gondola is a leisurely trip of a lifetime since it's a feast of the senses.
When you wander along the Grand Canal, you'll see many of Venice's ancient neighborhoods while passing underneath the legendary Rialto Bridge. You'll also catch the smells in the air from the local markets and talk with your Gondola operator.
The Bridge of Sighs
The Bridge of Sighs has a somewhat macabre history, considering that this 17th-century white limestone bridge used to be the way prisoners traveled between the prison and interrogation rooms at Doges Palace. Yet, it's still worth walking across since this bridge spans the Rio di Palazzo canal and is easily one of the most famous bridges in the city.
Campo Santa Maria Formosa
If you're in the mood to grab lunch in Venice, you'll want to visit Campo Santa Maria Formosa, which is a charming small square tucked away from the often crowded Piazzas of Venice. This square is home to a handful of cafes selling delicious local cuisine, local shops, and a few market stalls. So visit and enjoy a meal while you bask in the reprieve of bustling crowds moving from one attraction to the next.
Rialto Fish Market (Mercato di Rialto)
If you want an authentic glimpse into Venice, you should consider visiting the Rialto Fish Market. This market has been a constant presence in Venice since its founding in 1152. When visiting, you can purchase fresh fish, seafood, fruit, and vegetables alongside local items you can take home as souvenirs.
When is the best time to visit Venice?
Those traveling from Verona to Venice often want to know the best time to visit. Typically, the best time to visit this floating city is in the late spring to early summer since the weather is warm and there are far fewer tourists than during the peak season.
If you plan on visiting during the peak season of July and August, be prepared for crowded attractions, streets, and hot, muggy weather. You should also be prepared for mosquitos, so be sure to bring along your bug repellent.
Another time to consider visiting Venice is from October to late February. This is when the city is at its quietestâand often cheapestâso you can expect deals on accommodation. Just be prepared for colder rainy weather during these months.

Fantastisk chaufför i Egypten
