Grotta Gigante involves descending and climbing about 500 steps, which can be tiring for younger children but exciting for older ones. Both caves stay cool year-round, so dress the kids in layers.
The famous Predjama Castle, built into a cliff face, sits just 6 miles (10 km) from Postojna Cave and is a popular pairing for visitors with extra time. However, given the schedule of this day trip with two cave visits and the round-trip drive from Rovinj, adding Predjama on the same day is challenging. If castles interest you, alternative routings focused on Predjama may suit you better.
Yes, this day trip crosses from Croatia into Italy for Grotta Gigante, then into Slovenia for Postojna Cave. All three countries are in the Schengen Area, but Croatia only joined in 2023, so border checks may still occur. Bring your passport or EU ID card.
