Know more about your day trip

Venice and Verona are about 70 miles (115 km) apart, and the drive along the A4 motorway takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes in normal traffic. It's one of the smoothest day trip drives in northern Italy.
The balcony at Casa di Giulietta (Juliet's House) is a 13th-century building that was associated with the Cappello family, thought to be the inspiration for Shakespeare's Capulets. While the Romeo and Juliet story is fictional, the site has become a beloved symbol of romance and is one of Verona's most visited spots.
Yes, Verona's historic center is compact and very easy to navigate on foot. Most major attractions are within a short walk of each other, and the city's cobblestone streets and medieval architecture make wandering a pleasure in itself.
Verona's historic center is UNESCO-listed and packed with landmarks. Top sights include Juliet's House and its famous balcony, the Roman Arena (one of the best-preserved in the world), Piazza delle Erbe, the Lamberti Tower, and the arch of Porta dei Borsari. The city rewards slow, unhurried exploration.
The Verona Arena is an ancient Roman amphitheater built in the 1st century AD and is remarkably well preserved. It hosts a world-famous open-air opera festival each summer. During the day, visitors can enter the Arena (ticket required) to walk through the tiers and imagine the spectacle it once held.
The area around Piazza delle Erbe is the living heart of Verona, filled with market stalls, cafes, and medieval palaces. From there, Piazza dei Signori is just steps away and far less crowded. The riverside Lungadige walkway is also lovely for a quieter stroll along the Adige River.
Verona is rewarding year-round. Spring and fall offer mild weather and thinner crowds. Summer is lively but hot and busy, particularly during the Arena opera season. Winter is cool, and the Christmas markets in Piazza dei Signori and Piazza delle Erbe are charming and much less crowded.
Verona sits in one of Italy's greatest wine regions. Amarone della Valpolicella, Soave, and Bardolino are all produced nearby and available in virtually every enoteca. For food, try risotto all'Amarone, horse meat dishes (a local tradition), fresh pasta, and the famous pandoro cake, which originates in Verona.
