The easiest way to reach the bay is by rental car, following signs for Kallithea from Rhodes Town or Faliraki. The drive from Rhodes Town takes around 20 minutes. Public shuttle buses run to the bay a few times daily. Boat trips from Rhodes Town and Faliraki are a popular alternative, with many day cruises including a swim and snorkeling stop at the bay.
The bay's rocky seabed and the need for water shoes make it less ideal for very young children than a traditional sandy beach. The calm, clear water is great for older children and confident swimmers. Families with toddlers may prefer the nearby sandy beaches of Faliraki or Afandou, which are better suited to small children paddling in shallow water.
Greece uses the euro (EUR). ATMs are available in Rhodes Town and nearby resort areas. Credit and debit cards are accepted at most hotels, restaurants, and larger shops, though smaller tavernas and beach facilities near Anthony Quinn Bay may operate on a cash-only basis, so it is worth carrying some euros with you.
The bay is a small, scenic cove with a mix of pebbles, rocks, and patches of sand rather than a wide sandy beach. The water is exceptionally clear and great for swimming and snorkeling. Water shoes are recommended, as the seabed can be rocky and sea urchins may be present. Sunbeds and parasols are available to rent, and a bar and cafe sit just above the beach near the car park.
Greek is the official language of Greece. In popular areas like Rhodes, English is widely spoken in hotels, restaurants, and at major attractions. Basic Greek phrases are warmly appreciated by locals.
The bay is close to several popular sights. Kallithea Springs, a restored thermal spa with striking architecture, is just a short drive away. The lively resort of Faliraki is about 4 kilometers (2 miles) north, while the historic village of Lindos and its ancient acropolis are roughly 35 kilometers (22 miles) to the south. The nearby Ladiko Beach is also well worth a visit.
The bay is best visited between May and October, when the weather is warm to hot and the sea is calm and inviting. July and August are peak months and the bay gets very busy by late morning. Visiting early in the day is highly recommended to secure a spot and enjoy the water before the crowds arrive. June and September offer a good balance of warm weather and fewer visitors.
In 1961, Mexican-American actor Anthony Quinn filmed scenes for The Guns of Navarone on Rhodes and fell in love with the landscape. He later acquired the cove, with an agreement to promote Rhodes as a destination. As governments changed, he eventually lost the rights to the beach, but the name Anthony Quinn Bay has stuck ever since.
