The Girona Temps de Flors in May transforms the old town into a floral art exhibition. Sant Narcis festival in late October is the city's biggest local celebration with music, fireworks, and traditional fairs. Girona also hosts a popular food festival and numerous cultural events throughout the year.
Girona's old town is compact and best explored on foot. The city also has a reliable local bus network connecting key neighborhoods. Barcelona is just 40 minutes away by high-speed train, making Girona an easy day trip from the Catalan capital. Taxis and ride-sharing apps are available for longer distances or day trips to the Costa Brava.
Girona's compact old town is very walkable, but the historic center features cobblestone streets, steep staircases, and uneven terrain, which can be challenging for strollers and wheelchairs. The flat riverfront promenade along the Onyar is accessible and enjoyable for all visitors.
