Plimmiri has a small fish taverna right by the beach, known for grilled octopus, fresh fish, and local Greek dishes. The setting next to the church and sea makes it a memorable spot. The nearby village of Gennadi, about 9 miles (15 km) north, has a wider range of dining options.
Plimmiri is in a remote part of southern Rhodes, and the drive to Rhodes' capital (conveniently also named Rhodes) is about 1.5 hours by car. The city of Rhodes is in the northern part of the island, and the ring roads around the coast are modern and scenic.
The long, relatively sheltered beach with calm sections is generally good for families. The shallow entry points and sandy sections are child-friendly, though parts of the shore can be choppy due to wind. The village itself is very quiet with limited facilities, so families should plan ahead and bring essentials.
The Acropolis of Lindos, perched on a dramatic cliff about 26 miles (42 km) north, is one of the most important ancient sites in Greece. The UNESCO-listed medieval Old Town of Rhodes is worth a half-day trip. Closer to Plimmiri, the Monastery of Tharri and the traditional village of Lachania offer a look at local culture.
Greece uses the euro (EUR). Credit cards are accepted at most hotels, restaurants, and larger shops. In smaller villages and local tavernas like those in Plimmiri, cash is often preferred, so it is wise to carry some euros. ATMs are available in nearby towns such as Gennadi and Lachania.
The best time to visit is between May and October, when the Mediterranean climate brings warm, dry weather perfect for swimming and beach activities. July and August are the hottest and busiest months. Spring and early fall offer pleasant weather with fewer visitors and lower accommodation prices.
Greek is the official language. In tourist areas and hotels across Rhodes, English is widely spoken. In smaller, more remote villages like Plimmiri, locals may have limited English, but a friendly approach and a few Greek phrases go a long way.
The beach at Plimmiri is popular for windsurfing due to consistent coastal winds. Snorkeling in the clear waters is also a highlight. Nearby hiking trails and the surrounding undeveloped coastline make it ideal for nature walks. Day trips to the Acropolis of Lindos and the medieval Old Town of Rhodes are also popular.
