The town center is compact and walkable, but many of the best beaches and scenic spots require a car or private transfer to reach comfortably. Roads in the area can be narrow and winding, so having a knowledgeable local driver can make exploring the surrounding coastline and Gallura region much more relaxed and enjoyable.
Tipping is not obligatory in Italy, but it is appreciated. In restaurants, leaving a euro or two or rounding up the bill is a polite gesture. Some bills may include a coperto (cover charge), which is not a tip. For exceptional service, leaving a small cash tip directly for your server is always welcomed.
The area is home to some of Sardinia's most beautiful beaches. Rena Bianca is the main town beach and easy to reach on foot. Capo Testa, just a short drive away, offers stunning scenery and clear water. La Marmorata and Rena di Levante are also nearby favorites worth visiting during your stay.
Beyond the beaches, visitors can explore the dramatic rock formations at Capo Testa, take a ferry to Corsica for a day trip, or discover the scenic Gallura countryside. The historic town center has a small museum and a 16th-century watchtower with panoramic views of the coast. Boat excursions along the coastline are also very popular.
Italy uses the euro (EUR). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in most hotels, restaurants, and shops, though it is always a good idea to carry some cash for smaller establishments, local markets, and areas outside the main town center. ATMs are available in Santa Teresa Gallura.
The best time to visit is from late May through September, when the weather is warm and sunny and the sea is ideal for swimming. July and August are the busiest months. If you prefer fewer crowds, late May, June, or early September offer pleasant weather with a calmer atmosphere and more accessible beaches.
Italian is the official language of Italy. In Santa Teresa Gallura, English is spoken in many hotels, restaurants, and tourist-facing businesses, especially during the summer season. Learning a few basic Italian phrases is always appreciated by locals and can go a long way in smaller shops and cafes.
Sardinia has a rich food culture. Look for culurgiones (stuffed pasta), porceddu (roasted suckling pig), bottarga (cured fish roe), and fresh seafood caught daily from local waters. Pair your meal with Vermentino di Gallura, a crisp local white wine. Many restaurants in town serve traditional Sardinian dishes alongside fresh Mediterranean fare.
